Warwick Castle

Finally, the last post from our Europe trip... 3 months later! 

I spent a day at Warwick Castle, an interesting old medieval castle. It was fun looking around and the bird show was pretty fun to watch.

The castle was originally built in 1068 but has since been rebuilt.

There were peacocks everywhere in the garden area.

After England we had quite the memorable trip home. We drove back to the airport near London, and barely made our flight back to Trieste Italy. Then we had to drive about two hours back to Zagreb, Croatia where we started. I was a great sport about it... not (I just wanted to take a direct flight back to Salt Lake City and back to the kids.)

The drive from Italy to Croatia routes through Slovenia for some time. When we made the drive it was dark and we stopped at a gas station for fuel somewhere in Slovenia. One of the options was clearly marked diesel but it wasn't clear what the other one was. I went inside to ask the attendant who told me we needed to drive around to the other side of the station because this side was for busses. Unfortunately, when I went back outside Erik had already started filling the car with the second option to the horror of the attendant.

She explained the substance was something called aquablu and that it was basically a salt water additive for busses. So then we got to spend the next few hours waiting for a mechanic at midnight to come and drain our fuel tank. After that we had a difficult time finding our hotel near the airport. By the time we made it in the early hours of the morning we had about an hour and a half to rest before it was time to wake up again and catch our flight.

It makes for a good story for sure... I mean how many people can claim that they got stuck at midnight in the middle of nowhere Slovenia waiting for a mechanic because they accidentally put salt water in their fuel tank?

All in all it was a pretty amazing trip to some cool new places that we really enjoyed!
