M is 5

M turned 5 last month!

He is such a thoughtful and inquisitive little boy. One things that he really loves right now is to listen to us read him stories. His cousin Haddie gave him Charlotte's web for a birthday gift and he absolutely loved it. Often times when we're reading he'll ask "what does that word mean?" Then a short time later he'll use the word appropriately in conversation. It's the cutest thing. We had parent teacher conferences recently and his preschool teacher talked about how he is always making her laugh. He uses words and phrases that seem absolutely preposterous for a 5 year old to be using and it's quite hilarious.

We began celebrating with a birthday dinner at Nana & Papa's house. He requested salmon, carrot soup, soda and cake. He is often suggesting carrot soup for dinner so he can peel the carrots. He can be very helpful sometimes!

Opening some gifts:

We did a little birthday party at our house with a few friends and some of his cousins. He likes the movie homeward bound and had requested that as a party theme. Here the kids are playing a modified version of don't eat pete. Pretty exciting!

Putting together a dog puzzle. They were impressively quick!

His cake with 2 out of 3 of the homeward bound characters. No english bulldogs could be found so we used a dalmation for chase instead.

He did a little treasure hunt on his birthday to find his new bike then he said "It's just what I wanted!" We went on a little January bike ride and warmed up with hot chocolate afterwards. As we were riding on the bike trail I asked him how it felt to be 5. He replied "Great! Things are better when you're 5." Oh man that kid is just the best.

After hot chocolate this truck was outside working which was a dream come true for M & J. They watched this for about 20 minutes. Happy Birthday M. I love you!!
