Cusco

Erik and I went on our first ever trip without kids in the end of May. We decided to go big and head to Peru to do some backpacking and exploring. After our plane left Lima, the Cusco airport was temporarily closed due to rain, so we flew to arequipa instead and waited for a bit before we resumed a flight to our original destination. The surprise landing in Arequipa was a bit of a shock for me but we weren't there for very long. I was a bit nervous and eager to get to Cusco to check in with our trekking company for the trip to Machu Picchu but everyone else seemed calm so that helped keep me at ease. It was so great to finally arrive after a long series of flights and to begin exploring. Our first days we walked around the city and ventured up the hillside to check out a statue of Christ and some Inca ruins. And we saw the first of many llamas.
